Xylazine Drug Testing
Xylazine is the new accomplice to the Fentanyl crisis
Acutis Diagnostics is working with substance-use facilities nationwide
to unmask the dangerous use of Xylazine, an animal sedative,
mixed with Fentanyl and other illicit drugs.
About Xylazine
Xylazine also known as “tranq or tranq dope” is a non-opioid sedative or tranquilizer that is approved only in veterinary medicine as a sedative with analgesic and muscle relaxant properties.
Illegal drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl can be mixed with xylazine to extend the duration of drug effects or expand street value.
Drug users who use illegal drugs may not be aware of its presence and because xylazine is a sedative and not an opioid, it resists standard opioid overdose reversal treatments.
Due to the devastating impact of Xylazine, the White House has released a National Response Plan and has asked the public and private sectors to pursue a coordinated effort to counter this new threat.
